Citations andAppeals
In order to provide a predictable and efficient parking experience for students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors, parking regulations at the University of Tennessee are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends, breaks, and holidays.
Parking Citation Rules and Protocols
- Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Regulations may be enforced by UT Parking Enforcement or UT Police.
- Citations may be appealed online. Click here to learn more about the appeals process.
- Citations unpaid after fourteen (14) calendar days incur an additional penalty of 50% of the original citation fee. Example: After 14 days, a $24 citation increases to $36.
- Delinquent citations are transferred to the Bursar’s Office for collection.
- The Bursar’s Office will send out notification of the balance due to all parties with FERPA permissions to view/pay a student’s financial balance.
- Delinquent citations may not be appealed.
How to Avoid a Citation
- Park in your assigned zone.
- Always have your permit displayed.
- If your windshield is tinted at the top and prevents your permit from being visible, tape the permit to the lower driver’s side of the windshield.
- Always park within the white lines and don’t block center aisles, yellow curbs, or driveways.
- Obey time limits in visitor parking spots and loading zones.
- If in doubt, refer to online parking maps for policy and location regulations, or call Parking and Transportation Services at 865-974-6031.
Metered Parking
All meters around campus are provided and enforced by the City of Knoxville. Regardless of whether or not you have a valid UT parking permit, you are still required to pay parking meters. Meters are enforced 24/7. If you receive a citation at a meter, follow the directions given on the ticket.
