Getting Around Town
No car?No problem!
As part of your student fees, you have access to no-cost transportation via the T bus. The T serves campus seven days a week with a fleet of 31 buses, 10 fixed routes, and on-demand accessible transportation via the T: Access and T: Link. Live routes and bus locations can be viewed online.
Students are also encouraged to utilize alternative means of transportation on campus, such as bicycles, scooters, and carpooling. Bicycles and e-scooters are available for rent on campus. UT continues to look for opportunities to expand transit service and add non-vehicular modes of transportation to improve the walkability and accessibility of campus.
What if I need groceries?
Students have access to 29 dining locations, 11 P.O.D. markets and a rotating selection of area food trucks on campus. For larger or more specialized grocery needs, Publix at University Commons is a quick ride on the T bus.
How do I leave campus for shopping or entertainment?
The University of Tennessee has partnered with Knoxville Area Transit to provide free transportation to all UT students. With 20 routes servicing over 500 bus stops, KAT bus can get you where you want to go. All KAT buses are wheelchair accessible and bicycle rack equipped. All you need to start riding is your VolCard!
Is there an airport shuttle?
The T currently offers two free airport shuttles prior to major holidays or breaks. The T also provides two return trips to campus. At this time, KAT does not operate an airport route.
What about ride sharing?
Uber and Lyft both operate in the Knoxville area, providing quick and easy transportation on demand.
How can I get home to West Tennessee?
The UT to West Tennessee initiative provides safe and affordable charter bus transportation for students living in Nashville, Jackson, Memphis, or the surrounding areas during long breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring).
The cost for this service is $55.00 for each break. Students have the option to travel one-way or round-trip; the fee is the same.
