The 2016 Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will bring over 6,500 people to campus for their event to be held at Thompson-Boling Arena July 1-3, 2016.
Thursday, June 30th
At 6:00 am the group will begin load-in for the event. Streets will be congested around Phillip Fulmer and Lake Loudon. Staff 5 on the east side of the arena MAY be closed for load-in.
Friday, July 1st
The convention begins at 9:00 am in the arena, with doors opening at 8:00 am. Expect SIGNIFICANT impact for those traveling around the arena as those 6,500 people will be on campus early to park.
Staff and students are strongly encouraged to utilize Joe Johnson Dr, Kingston Pike and Cumberland Ave to access that day and also to exit campus. The Neyland and Lake Loudon intersection will be extremely busy during rush hours in the morning and afternoon.
Parking Office to have attendants at key shared lots like S9, S30 AHT, etc., to assist with information and guidance as needed
If you are on campus over the weekend – the convention group will increase from 6,500 on Friday to 8,500 Saturday and Sunday. Please adjust your travel plans accordingly
Lots to be impacted:
G10 – Completely reserved for the conference
S9 – Half the spaces will be reserved
G4 – Entire commuter area of Admin Garage
C6 – Entire west side of Andy Holt Tower (includes some S30 spaces also
G14 – Entire Pratt Lot
S23 – A portion of S23 across from Pratt
GF lots on Todd Helton – This area will be used for staging their parking attendants
Phillip Fulmer On-Street – Both sides coned for buses, vans, ADA, etc.
Where can staff park?
- Staff 23 across from Pratt
- Staff 30 in G3 Admin Garage, on east side of AHT & at Hearing & Speech
- North ½ of S9 main lot & all of S9 behind Bailey/Claxton
Parking Office to have PEOs/Attendants at key shared lots like S9, S30 AHT, etc., to assist with information and guidance as needed
