2017 Volunteer Blvd construction impacting mobility

Circle Park and a portion of Volunteer Blvd is scheduled to close Monday, May 29 (yes Memorial Day)

 Streetscape Phase II

Much like Phase I on Volunteer Blvd from UT Dr to Pat Head Summitt St in front of Fraternity Park and the Student Health Center – the beautification project is ramping up. In order to complete major portions before the fall semester, numerous adjustments are necessary this summer.

Summer 2017 Visitor and Cone Zone Parking Map May 25 2017

Road impact (assume you are entering campus from Cumberland)

  • Vol Blvd from Hodges Library to Peyton Manning Pass will be reduced to one lane in each direction (this includes the area next to McClung Tower)
  • Volunteer Blvd from Peyton Manning Pass to Lake Loudon Blvd is scheduled to be CLOSED completely May 29 – Aug 11
  • Vol Blvd from Lake Loudon Blvd to Pat Head Summitt St will be reduced to one lane in each direction

Circle Park Impact

  • The road and parking throughout Circle Park is scheduled to be CLOSED from
    May 29 – Aug 11.
  • The sidewalk and access to all buildings (McClung Museum, Student Services, Communications, etc.) will all be open.
  • Visitor parking for Circle Park will be relocated to C8 (the commuter lot at the corner of Lake Loudon Blvd and Vol Blvd).
  • C8 will have very limited commuter parking so students should consider alternative areas such as G10, G16, C5, and C20.
  • Parking services (PSO) will still operate the Circle Park information booth and distribute the 45 minute permits as usual for visitors.
  • There will be multiple signage locations to assist in informing people where Visitor Parking will be located.
  • Handicapped/Accessible Visitor parking will be in C8. A temporary ramp will be added at the southeast corner to allow an accessible exit and entrance.

McClung Museum Park Impact

  • The sidewalk and access to all buildings (McClung Museum, Student Services, Communications, etc.) will all be open.
  • Visitors to McClung Museum will receive a two hour permit from the Circle Park information booth to park in the C8 visitor area.
  • Handicapped/Accessible Visitor parking has been moved to the east side of the parking lot. A temporary ramp will be added at the southeast corner to allow an accessible exit and entrance.
  • Buses bring groups to the museum will be able to drop their participants at a designated space at the edge of Circle Park and then they will walk around to the museum. We need to ensure that handicapped/accessible participants can get to the museum.
  • Parents dropping off or picking children at McClung Museum camp will also use C8 and get a 45 minute permit.

Parking Impact

  • S9 parking at Art & Architecture is scheduled to be CLOSED from May 29 to Aug 11. The entrance for this parking lot will be greatly improved by being moved east and the entrance currently at the intersection will be eliminated.
  • S9 permit holders will be able to use all levels of the G16 Garage during the summer.
  • On-street parking on Vol Blvd from the Ped Walkway to Pat Heat Summitt St will close effective May 29 (yes Memorial Day)
  • Commercial loading and unloading will still be available in the two parking spaces at Ped Walkway. Vendors must use this area and not block Vol Blvd when traffic is limited to one lane in each direction.

T and Trolley Bus Impact

(The map for the summer route will be uploaded shortly)

  • T campus buses and the KAT Trolley rerouted to avoid the closures
  • Certain bus stops will be temporarily closed this summer on sections of road where the road is reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • The Hill Summer Route will take a new route that will depart from the Hill and proceed to Phillip Fulmer Way to Chamique Holdsclaw Dr to Pat Head Summit St to Volunteer Blvd to Andy Holt Ave and back to Pat Head Summitt St. Returning the bus will proceed on Chamique Holdsclaw Dr to Phillip Fulmer Way to Peyton Manning Pass to Volunteer Blvd to Cumberland and then back to the Hill.
